Geothermal Lease Sale in Nevada Yields Record Bids
The U.S. Department of the Interior has received a record $28.2 million in bids for geothermal energy development on 35 parcels, encompassing a total of 105,211 acres of federal public lands in Nevada. The record lease sale portends continued growth in U.S. geothermal power. More

New York Expands Renewable Net Metering and Green Roof Incentives
New York has approved an energy package that allows non-residential customers to earn credit for power fed into the grid from wind and solar power systems, while expanding the limits for such "net metering" at farms and homes. It also provides tax cuts for green and solar roofs in New York City. More

EPA Declines Texas Request to Reduce Renewable Fuel Requirements
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has declined a request from Texas Governor Rick Perry to cut the renewable fuels mandate in half for 2008 to ease grain prices. The EPA argues that changing the mandate would have little or no effect on grain prices. More

Governor of Massachusetts Signs Clean Energy Biofuels Act
Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick signed the Clean Energy Biofuels Act in late July, which exempts biofuels made from cellulose from the state's gasoline tax, mandates mixing biodiesel with diesel starting in 2010, and obligates the state to create a low-carbon fuel standard to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from transportation by 10%. Companies and Utilities to Launch Algae Farm in Hawaii

Texas to Spend $4.93 Billion on Transmission Lines for Wind Power
The Public Utility Commission of Texas has approved a plan to build transmission lines that will deliver up to 18,456 megawatts of wind power to metropolitan areas of the state. The $4.93 billion transmission system upgrade will be in service in about 4 or 5 years. More
